Podcast: Silage U

For our final installment in this podcast series with Greg Jones, NutriDense Silage product manager, I learned more about Silage University, one of the newest projects at NutriDense.

Silage U is an online learning tool for dairy producers, seed representatives and others involved in the dairy industry. The training module features information portrayed through University researcher quotes, animated diagrams and visuals. Listen in as Greg discusses the reasoning behind Silage U and how it can be a valuable tool for those in the dairy industry.

After looking back on his travels to silage and grain plot tours and talking about hybrid seed selection, Mark returns to give growers some tips on what can be done right now to get ready for 2011 planting and harvest.

Heads Up: Dairy meetings scheduled

The Penn State University Dairy and Animal Science Department’s Friday Facilitator Forum starts up soon in 2011, with three upcoming meetings designed for dairy management professionals.

The one-hour online discussions include introductory 20 to 30 minute presentations about a team-related topic, followed by interaction and discussion by participants. Here are the topics scheduled through March:

  • January 21 – Topic: Reaching Team Goals, presented by Robert Goodling
  • February 18 – Topic: Resolving Conflict in the Team, presenter to be announced
  • March 18 – Topic: Tools and Techniques for Successful Facilitation, presenter to be announced

Additionally, three regional Illinois dairy meetings, sponsored by the Illinois Milk Producers Association, are scheduled this month. Program topics include precision feeding, TMR audits, calf management, balancing feed and milk prices, as well as a producer/nutritionist panel at each meeting:

  • Jan. 25 – Centralia, Ill.
  • Jan. 26 – Bloomington, Ill.
  • Jan. 27 – Freeport, Ill.

Podcast: Sales agronomist Mark Schultz talks about 2010 grain plot tour results

It’s a new year, and we’re back with another installment of our agronomic podcast series with BASF Plant Science sales agronomist Mark Schultz. Recently on The Corn Feed, I spoke with Mark about the silage plot tours he took in the fall around the country.

Mark, along with NutriDense forage specialists and the hybrid development team, toured grain plots in these areas as well. Today on The Corn Feed, he talks about what he saw on these plot tours in terms of yield and quality.
